Study Law UK Page

Welcome to the Study Law UK Page! If you would like to study law in the UK, you should first obtain the Bachelor of Laws (LLB).

In addition, there are several options for the postgraduate study of law, including the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws, the Postgraduate Diploma in Laws and the Master of Laws (LLM).

A law degree will certain improve your employability because law degrees from UK universities are prestigious and command respect.

The LLB is a three year undergraduate degree programme. However, the LLB by itself is not a license to practise as a lawyer.

In the UK, there are two types of lawyers: solicitors and barristers. The jobs of the solicitor and barrister are quite different.

The duration of the barrister’s course is for one academic year. The barrister's course is also known as the bar vocational course.

Many UK universities offer the bar vocational course. During this academic year, the student must join one of the four Inns of Court based in London.

At the end of the bar vocational course, the student will be called to the bar. This means that the student has successfully received the professional qualification to practise as a barrister.

In order to become a solicitor, a student must take the Legal Practice Course through the Solicitors Regulation Authority. This course normally lasts for one year.

There are also many careers apart from legal practice as a solicitor or barrister, such as working in national and local government law departments and specialist niche areas of law like taxation.
